When the Trash Settles – We’re Still Neighbors
The Best News Ever!
Good news rolls in like a garbage truck at dawn: Republic Services and the Teamsters Local 439 have reached a tentative agreement, officially ending the sympathy strike that disrupted waste collection across Fairfield, Suisun City, and parts of Solano County. Starting today, Saturday, July 19, crews are rolling out to clean up what was left behind.
Here’s how service will resume:
Starting today, Saturday, July 19: Crews will collect missed Wednesday and Thursday routes.
- Sunday, July 20: Friday routes get their turn.
- Monday, July 21: Regular weekly service resumes, including Suisun City routes.
- Senior service routes will continue to get priority attention through the weekend.
- Drop-off boxes remain available through Tuesday, July 22.
Heads up: crews may hit the streets as early as 6:00 a.m. this weekend to catch up before landfills close, so don’t be surprised by a little extra morning rumble.
The Consequences
During the strike, residents were allowed to put trash in their blue and green bins to manage overflow — but as of Monday, it’s back to business as usual: recyclables in blue, organics in green, and trash in gray. Let’s all do our part to keep things tidy.
Some delays could still linger early in the week as crews finish clearing the backlog. Be patient. Keep your bins out. Everyone’s working hard to get our neighborhood back on track.
This is Why Eastridge Hills Residents are Special
Neighbors, this is a reminder that even when our trash piles up, our extrodinary patience survives. We’ve all endured the inconvenience of broken security gates, and we all benefit when service is restored. So smile at the crews, wave at your neighbor, and remember: we’re ALL in this together.
If you have further questions about the schedule or drop-off sites, check the City of Fairfield’s updates directly or contact Republic Services.
