Cracks, Rocks, and a Plan That Doesn’t Crack
We’ve noticed cracks forming in our Eastridge Hills streets, some of which are caused by heavy construction-truck traffic from the new homes being built uphill in Eastridge POA-land. More importantly, these cracks are the early signs of bigger problems: over the next twelve months, hairline cracks may widen to the ¼-inch “critical” kind. At that point, repairs become far more expensive if we don’t take action now.
Reality What’s happening on our streets
- Small cracks are spreading, and heavy truck traffic accelerates the damage.
- Some of the white granite stones in our roadbed are exposed. They’re slick and smooth, which means asphalt binder doesn’t grip well—first rains can wash asphalt oils away.
- These conditions allow cracks to grow faster and weaken the street base.
Consequences Why delay costs more
- Cracks widen ➝ water intrudes ➝ base weakens ➝ potholes.
- Pothole and patch repairs cost much more than early preservation.
- Street quality directly affects property values and neighborhood safety.
Call to Action Our plan to protect Eastridge Hills
- Propose a 2026 Budget item for a seal-coat program to preserve asphalt, bind fines(rocks), and keep water out.
- Seal priority cracks now to stop further water intrusion.
- Repaint centerlines, STOP legends, and add crosswalks where safety warrants.
- Engage the community: resident ideas are welcome—extra hands make light work.
